Prepare a design for print
Lesson 6.1 of 45 Video 2 min read Updated Oct 17, 2026
Give a design the pixels its print size needs: DPI Fixer sizes it for a product at 300 DPI, DPI Fixer Ultimate adds a 4× AI upscale for small or damaged art, and 4× Upscaler enlarges on its own.
Print-on-demand editors size a design by its pixels. Writing "300 DPI" into a small file doesn't make it print bigger or sharper: a 1024 px image has enough pixels for about 8.7 cm at 300 DPI. These tools give the design the pixels its print size needs and write the DPI into the file.
Which tool
| Tool | What it does | Price |
|---|---|---|
| DPI Fixer | Trims the empty margins, resizes the art to the exact pixels of the print size and writes the DPI into a PNG. | 30 credits |
| DPI Fixer Ultimate | A 4× AI upscale first, then DPI Fixer. For designs that are small or damaged: blurry edges, JPEG blocks. | 80 credits |
| 4× Upscaler | Only the 4× AI upscale, faithful to colours and texture. | 50 credits |
Start with DPI Fixer: it's right for most designs. Use Ultimate when the original is small for the print size or visibly damaged.
Step by step
- Open DPI Fixer (or DPI Fixer Ultimate) and upload the design in "Image": PNG, JPG or WebP. Transparency is kept.
- In "Preset", pick the product it will be printed on. To type a size yourself, pick "custom" and fill in "Custom width mm", "Custom height mm" or both.
- "DPI" starts at 300, the print standard. Change it only if your print shop asks for another value.
- Leave "Trim" on "auto" to crop the empty margins first, so the size applies to the art. "off" keeps the whole canvas.
- Check the cost on "Run" and start it. You get a PNG with exactly the pixels that size needs and the DPI written in.
The art keeps its proportions: it fills the width or the height of the print area, whichever it reaches first.
